Mexico Mission 2008

Edmond Church of Christ Mexico Mission Trip

March 13-23, 2008

For 19 years we have been traveling to the mountains of Mexico to share the gospel.  The majority of the mission team to Mexico is made up of university students, but we also have several individuals and families from the Edmond Church participate. Our work projects this year will include pouring concrete floors for homes, water projects, fumigating homes, working on church property, conducting a Vacation Bible School daily in 5 villages, dental work, conducting a nightly gospel meeting for all villages and delivering 275 care packages containing food and household goods.

CARE PACKAGES

Our goal is to distribute 275 care packages to families throughout valley region near, and including, the village of Aquiles. Each package contains enough food staples to last a family one month, plus household supplies and toiletries.  Please consider contributing to this effort.  Donations may be made in Bible class or to the church office.  Call 341-3353 for more information.

Oversight & Missionary

March 13-23, 2008, will be our 19th annual mission trip to the mountains of Mexico sponsored by the Edmond Church of Christ.  Humberto Hernandez, native Mexican and former elder, plans and oversees this mission effort.  This year we will be working in the villages of Aquiles, La Union, San Rafael, La Mesa, Santa Maria, La Cieneguita, El Refugio, 16th of September, Rancho Nuevo and El Naranjo.

Cost is $395

A $75 deposit is due immediately to reserve your place.  The balance is due at the of February.  This amount covers all meals, housing, transportation, supplies, T-shirt and Travel Visas.  The only extra money needed is for souvenirs and snacks.

Living Conditions

Living conditions are primitive with no tap water, showers, flush toilets, etc.  The weather is similar to the mountains of Colorado in the summer - warm days and cool nights.

Food & Water

We will be preparing all of our own food while in Mexico.  Our drinking water comes from mountain springs and is very clean.  All drinking water is treated.

Special Note To Students

Our traveling schedule requires you to miss Friday classes.  This is necessary for us to be able to arrive in Aquilies late Saturday evening so we can worship with the Christians there on Sunday morning.  Sunday worship is one of the highlights of the trip and is key to working together with the local congregation during the week.  You will need permission to miss that day and to do your work ahead of time.  We must work with integrity to handle this scheduling conflict as some professors feel strongly about students missing classes the day before break.

Note to Non-students

It's always great to have those outside our campus ministry at Edmond as a part of our mission.  Whether you live locally or in another state, we understand that your needs and schedules will vary from university students.  It is our hope that you can attend at least one of our planning meetings on Sunday afternoons and hopefully more.  Please contact Kent Risley or Brent Nichols and keep them posted on your plans.

Thursday Morning Group

A group will be leaving early Thursday morning with most of our camp supplies.  Lord willing they will arrive a day ahead of the main group.  We are looking for as many adults and students as possible to join this group.  Contact the office (341-3353) for a full itinerary.
