Our vision for the church God wants us to be comes from the New Testament. We envision being an active community of faith that seeks to make disciples and continually develop as disciples. We embrace the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) as our mission to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit..."
There are numerous ways we strive to be disciples and made disciples in this world. The following three missional movements, undergirded by several core values, provide opportunities for to focus on discipleship:
GO
The Great Commission instructs followers of Christ to actively enter the world with a clear purpose—to teach, baptize, and make disciples of all nations. One of our congregational goals is to see every Bible class involved in a mission effort—by going/sending or by partnering with another class to do mission work. To help reach this goal, the congregation uses funds from three Commission Sunday offerings during the year to help supplement a large percentage of the cost of every church member’s mission trip. Through short-term mission efforts, we will have an opportunity to be used by God to share the love and message of Christ in places nearby and far away. Lives will be changed eternally, including our own, because we are willing to take a step of faith and GO!
We also support several missionaries around the globe who are on the front lines of disciple-making. Through three Commission Sundays each year, we emphasize what God is doing through missions, pray for our many missionaries, and give sacrificially to support them and their work.
CONNECT
The Edmond Church of Christ remains active in our community, sharing the love of Christ and the message of the cross with our neighbors in Oklahoma City/Edmond and the surrounding area. Our goal is to (1) develop a disciple-making mindset that notices others and actively reaches out to them, and (2) create opportunities to engage the community for the cause of Christ.
While many organized efforts throughout the year provide opportunities for the congregation to connect with our community, we should remember that we don’t need a program to share our faith. We simply need to notice our neighbors and take the time to express care and concern, meet needs, and speak out for Jesus at work, at home, in our neighborhoods, and among friends and strangers.
EMBRACE
Hospitality is a spiritual discipline we are continuing to develop. Our desire is to make all guests and visitors feel at home among us. One of our goals is to get every member involved in making others feel welcome at the Edmond Church of Christ. We have countless opportunities to embrace guests during worship assemblies, Bible classes, and fellowship activities, just to name a few.
Greeters at the doors, section hosts, and our welcome books help us embrace people who come our way. In our new facility, currently being constructed, we will have a larger welcome center and greeting area. We appreciate every guest who comes our way, and we want to help each one develop meaningful relationships with other people and with God.
