Ministry & Support Staff

  • JC Curtis / graphic designer (part-time)

    JC first came to the Edmond church as a college student in 1998, where he met his wife, Courtney, on a Campus Ministry mission trip to Mexico. He graduated from OC with a degree in Advertising and Graphic Design and went on to serve as one of the university’s designers for 13 years. He now supports our ministries as a part-time designer while also managing his own design ventures. JC and Courtney have two wonderful children and feel blessed to be part of this church family.

  • SAM DAY / youth minister

    Sam began his ministry at Edmond in November 2023. After earning a degree in History Education from OC, he planned to be a teacher. But God had other plans and led Sam into full-time youth ministry at the Del City church in 2020. Now serving alongside John Frias at Edmond, Sam works with students and parents to develop a stronger faith and love for Jesus. Sam grew up in Olathe, KS, and married Cara (Cecil) who grew up at the Edmond church. Sam enjoys playing basketball, fantasy football, disc golf and board games, and cheering on his favorite teams—the Kansas City Chiefs, OU Sooners, and OKC Thunder.

  • john frias / youth minister

    John Frias joined the ministry team at Edmond prior to the summer of 2016.  After serving as the graduate assistant in youth ministry for two years, John's ministry expanded to a full-time role as youth minister in February 2019. In this role, John works alongside Sam, youth deacons & parents to minister to students in 7th-12th grades. John and his wife Marci were an active part of our campus and young adult ministry, and each served as interns with the Edmond Church of Christ during their college years at Oklahoma Christian where he earned a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a Masters of Divinity (MDiv). John is passionate about his faith and excited to help teens grow in their faith. He enjoys watching movies, rooting for the San Antonio Spurs, and hanging out with his wife (not in that order!).

  • brenda gordon / children's minister

    Brenda and her husband, Sylvan, have been members of the Edmond congregation for over 45 years. With a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from OC, Brenda taught for 21 years in the public school system. In 2003, God led her to full-time children’s ministry at the Edmond Church. In this role, Brenda provides opportunities for children in nursery through 6th grade to develop knowledge and a relationship with God while also creating opportunities for intergenerational involvement and outreach to the community. Providing resources to parents who want to nurture spiritual development in their children is also an important part of Brenda's ministry. She and Sylvan have two grown daughters, LeAnna (Cody) and Audrey (Kevin) and grandchildren Aspen, Kodi, Ben and Conner. Brenda enjoys crafts, traveling, and spending time with family, and she makes an amazing snickerdoodle cookie!

  • taegan higginbottom / Admin. Assistant bookkeeper

    Taegan joined the Edmond Church staff as Administrative Assistant Bookkeeper in January 2021. She has a bachelor's degree in business management from OC. She and her husband Jake are active across the congregation and are excited for opportunities to serve. They attend and are active in the Seekers class. Taegan and her husband had their first son Kallum in March of 2025.

  • LISA HUGHEY / support staff

    After working on the Edmond church staff for nine years and then three years with Oklahoma Christian Academy, Lisa returned to join the support staff at Edmond in 2022. Sitting at the front desk reception area, Lisa greets everyone with a warm welcome and friendly smile. She graduated from OC in 2001 with a degree in Child Development/Family Studies. Lisa views the many daily tasks in the office not as her job but as her mission of helping people and serving God. She considers herself blessed to call Edmond her church home, along with her husband Brian, and her son Logan and stepdaughter Presley. In her free time, Lisa enjoys antiquing and working on projects that involve repurposing old things into something new. She also enjoys paper crafts, time in the mountains, running and spending time with her family. 

  • david laxton / facilities care manager

    After serving 30 years with the Oklahoma City Fire Department, David decided to retire in 2013, and God led him to start a new chapter in his life by working full-time with the Edmond Church as facilities care manager. David oversees all facility and grounds maintenance and upkeep and directs special projects associated with the church campus. David and his wife, Cathy, have five grown children, two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, and five wonderful grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys golf and other outdoor activities.

  • Shawn Mcelroy / counseling & mental health

    Shawn joined the ministry staff at Edmond in the fall of 2015. Shawn serves as our counselor and provides preventive and therapeutic mental health resources for the congregation and community. Prior to entering full-time ministry, Shawn worked as a therapist, providing counseling and guidance to a diverse population of clients. Shawn earned a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma Christian and a Master's in Counseling Psychology from UCO in 2006. He and his wife, Liz, have two children, Ivy and Elijah. Shawn and Liz came to Edmond from the Britton Road Church of Christ in OKC where they were active in several ministries. At home, they spend their time doing house projects, outdoor activities, reading, and keeping up with the little ones.

  • TYSON MINOR / assistant facilities manager

    After earning a degree in Marketing/Digital Communication from OC, Tyson began working part-time with David Laxton in caring for our facilities in 2022. Tyson is a busy man, also working as a groundskeeper for a small landscaping/irrigation company and as a digital marketer for a marketing company. In his spare time, Tyson operates two large social media brands on Instagram.    

  • katie rayner / support staff

    Katie began working in the church office in 2013 and works mainly with shepherd communication, new members, minister support, special seminars/classes and projects such as mailings, publications, Christmas Wish program and many more. Before moving back to Oklahoma, Katie and her husband, Kevin, and their two sons, Dustin and Patrick, served as church planters and domestic missionaries for 26 years in Fond du Lac, WI and Rochester, MN. In her spare time, Katie enjoys spending time with her sons and daughters-in-law, and 6 grandchildren, and helping with the Senior Ministry.

  • kevin rayner / community & seniors minister

    After 26 years as a church planter and domestic missionary in Fond du Lac, WI and Rochester, MN, Kevin and his family moved back to Oklahoma. Kevin preached for the Tecumseh, OK, congregation for six years and then joined the Edmond ministry staff in 2012. In his unique role at Edmond, Kevin provides leadership in church-wide outreach efforts, guests relations and ministry to senior adults. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from SWOSU and is a graduate of Harding University’s Center for Advanced Ministry Training. Kevin and Katie have two sons, Dustin and Patrick, who also attend Edmond along with their families. Kevin’s interests include his family, worship music, humor, sports, computers, social media and exercising.

  • PATRICK RAYNER / campus minister

    In the spring of 2023, Patrick was named campus minister at Edmond. After serving as a deacon and being deeply involved in our campus ministry for over a decade, Patrick felt led by God into this ministry role. Patrick grew up in Rochester, MN, where his parents served as missionaries and church planters. He earned a dual degree in Accounting and Vocational Ministry from OC, and spent six semesters and two summers working as an Edmond campus ministry intern while in college. He and Daniella have three beautiful children: Bella, Cooper and Harrison. “The students constantly inspire me with their hearts and their attitudes,” Patrick said. “Being around them is a huge blessing for us and our kids. More than anything, we are excited to see God work through the entire group and to see what we know He is capable of!”

  • michael reese / administrator

    Michael left the oil and gas industry, and in the beginning of 2021, came on board at the Edmond church as Administrator. In this role, he works with the church’s finances and helps facilitate work on the building and grounds. Michael has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration-Accounting from OC, and his previous work experience is in banking and oil and gas. He is actively involved in the work of our Campus Ministry during the school year. In his free time, Michael enjoys watching sports and spending time with family and friends.

  • kent risley / executive minister

    Kent, a graduate of Oklahoma Christian, has served as a minister at Edmond Church of Christ since 1987, with roles including campus minister and associate minister. Currently, he coordinates the ministerial team, preaches, and assists with the implementation of various ministry opportunities. Kent is passionate about leadership and mentoring, always seeking ways to stay creative and current in his approach to ministry. Kent and his wife, Brenda, have three grown children—Caleb, Sarah, and Hannah—and two sons-in-law, Tracy and Daniel. They are blessed with four grandchildren. In his personal time, Kent enjoys woodworking, particularly with a wood lathe, as well as spending time in his yard and with his family. His deep commitment to the church and his family is central to his work and life.

  • jeremy robertson / family life minister

    Jeremy joined the ministry staff at Edmond as Youth Minister in May 2010. He graduated from Oklahoma Christian with a bachelor's degree in Ministry/Bible and a master’s degree in Family Life Ministry from OC. After 13 years in youth ministry, Jeremy transitioned to Family Life Minister at Edmond in 2023. In this role, Jeremy leads ministry and outreach efforts for marriage enrichment, young adults, men's and women's ministry and other family life contexts. He and his wife, Ashley, have two sons, Judah and Ryder. Jeremy enjoys golf and watching OU football and OKC Thunder…and one more thing, he has "mad" shuffleboard skills!

  • randy roper / preaching minister

    Randy has served the Edmond Church since1994 as youth minister, family minister, and now, preaching minister. In this role, he coordinates the preaching schedule, preaches regularly and is involved in staff leadership, strategic planning, and communication for the congregation. Randy desires ongoing transformation by God and enjoys sharing God's transformative power with others. Randy has a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Oklahoma, and Master's and  Bachelor’s degrees from Oklahoma Christian University. Randy enjoys playing golf, watching OU sports and spending time with his family. Randy and his wife, Kerianne, have one son, Riley, daughter-in-law, Emma, and two beautiful twin granddaughters.

  • Tony sepulveda / spanish-speaking minister

    Jose Otoniel Sepulveda, “Tony”, came to Edmond in May of 2012 to work full time with our Spanish Speaking Ministry. Tony became a Christian in Dodge City, Kansas in 1995 and then studied at the South Texas Preaching School. He worked for a Spanish speaking congregation in Pharr, TX, before going to work for Chandler Road church of Christ in Muskogee, OK, where he served until coming to Edmond. While in Muskogee he served as Chaplin for the Muskogee Police Department. He and his wife, Norma, have three children. 

  • danielle waldo / support staff

    In 2008, Danielle began working in the church office. While the support staff at Edmond works together on many projects, Danielle works in the specific areas of bulletin, publications, worship coordination, record-keeping, phone reception and several others. Danielle and her husband, David, are also very involved in Edmond’s Spanish-speaking ministry, providing leadership and support in all aspects of this growing ministry. The Waldos have two children, Alex and Hayley (with son-in-law Tanner). Danielle enjoys cooking, crafts and traveling. 

  • LAURA WILLIAMSON / children's minister

    Laura began serving as the children’s minister in June 2025, bringing over 30 years of experience working alongside the children’s ministry and a heart for nurturing young faith. Before stepping into her current role, Laura spent 10 years teaching kindergarten in public schools, where she developed a passion of supporting children’s growth and development. Laura has been an active member of Edmond Church of Christ since her college years. This is where she met her husband, Craig, of 26 years. They have 3 children, Camdyn (Jonathan), Carter, and Collin. Laura cherishes the opportunity to serve in ministry alongside her family. With a heart for teaching and a love for young children, Laura is excited to continue fostering an environment where children can grow in their faith and knowledge of God’s love.
